FInding your village: the pressure of ‘mum friends’

Do you feel the pressure to ‘find your village’? To get those ‘mum friends’ everyone always insists that are ESSENTIAL to your life as a new mum?! It’s a lot, right? I swear I hadn’t had to make new friends since university and now it was like the first day of school when you really, really need someone to sit next to you or you’ll be a billy no mates for the whole term!

I did a poll on my instagram recently (@motheryourway_yoga) and the vast majority of my followers said they met their mum friends at an antenatal class. And that’s certainly where I met mine- my husband and I joke that we spent £300 on that antenatal class solely to buy ourselves a friendship group! And for us, it worked. I love my pals from my antenatal class. But I know plenty of other mums who just didnt click with people they went to classes with - and that’s not surprising really, is it, it’s a totally random selection of people put in a room!

That’s why I started Mamas + Mocktails… a super informal networking event based in a gorgeous local bar, where you can meet other expectant mums in a laid back environment, where you can have a chat and a mocktail, with no pressure. And if you don’t find anyone you click with, then come back for the next one! Plus, I do all the awkward “can I have your phone number to add you to the WhatsApp group” so you don’t even have to feel like you’re aged 15 again and asking for someone’s number! Come join us at the next one… free tickets on my ‘book now’ page. I can’t wait for you to find mum friends that you truly want to be friends with!!
